The Water and Climate Officer leads technical and engineering initiatives to enhance the efficiency, resilience and sustainability of rural water utilities in Ethiopia, focusing on climate‑resilient systems, water safety planning, and capacity building for service providers.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical support to rural water service providers to improve efficiency and sustainability
- Strengthen and professionalise utilities through system management, asset maintenance and delivery models
- Identify system gaps and recommend engineering improvements
- Design and implement climate‑resilient water supply systems and conduct vulnerability assessments
- Lead development of climate‑resilient Water Safety Plans (CR‑WSPs) and strengthen quality monitoring
- Build capacity for O&M, climate‑resilient management and utility service delivery
- Support planning, budgeting and monitoring at woreda level
- Advise on advocacy, learning and policy engagement
- Coordinate with government, providers and communities and promote gender, equity and inclusion
