The Infection Control Nurse plans, implements, monitors, and evaluates infection prevention and control programs within the healthcare facility, ensuring compliance with national regulations and safeguarding patient and staff safety.
Responsibilities
- Conduct surveillance of healthcare-associated infections and communicable diseases
- Identify, investigate, and report infection outbreaks and implement containment measures
- Monitor compliance with hand hygiene, PPE use, isolation precautions, environmental cleaning, and sterilization
- Participate in risk assessments and develop strategies to minimize infection risks
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams for infection prevention and management
- Review microbiology and clinical data to identify infection patterns and antimicrobial resistance trends
- Conduct infection control rounds and inspections across departments
- Develop, implement, and monitor infection prevention policies and procedures
- Maintain accurate surveillance records and prepare periodic reports for leadership and regulatory bodies
- Coordinate committee meetings and conduct audits of infection practices
- Provide education and training programs on infection prevention for staff, patients, and visitors
