The ICU/Critical Care Specialist delivers advanced life support and critical care interventions for critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit, coordinating multidisciplinary teams and ensuring high-quality patient outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Assess, diagnose, and manage critically ill patients in ICU
- Provide advanced life support and critical care interventions for respiratory failure, sepsis, shock, trauma, organ failure, and other complex conditions
- Perform and supervise procedures such as intubation, central venous catheter insertion, arterial line placement, and mechanical ventilation management
- Interpret laboratory results, imaging studies, and hemodynamic monitoring data
- Coordinate multidisciplinary care with surgeons, anesthesiologists, internists, and other specialists
- Respond to medical emergencies and participate in rapid response and code blue teams
- Develop individualized treatment plans and ensure continuity of care throughout ICU admission
- Maintain accurate patient records and critical care documentation
- Ensure compliance with ICU protocols, infection prevention measures, and patient safety standards
- Participate in quality improvement and clinical audit activities
- Collaborate with nursing staff and allied health professionals to optimize patient care and resource utilization
- Educate patients' families regarding treatment plans and prognosis
- Mentor junior physicians, residents, nurses, and other healthcare professionals
