Head of Cost Accountant

About the Role

The Head of Cost Accountant will develop and maintain a robust cost accounting system, lead the transition to ERP, analyze operational costs, set standards, perform CVP and variance analysis, manage inventories, and produce financial reports for management.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain a cost accounting system ensuring accurate costing
• Assist in converting from mainframe cost accounting to ERP
• Collect and analyze operational cost data
• Set standard costs for manufactured goods
• Perform CVP analysis for small businesses
• Establish costs of business processes (administration, labor, shipping, etc.)
• Reconcile accounts and prepare audit reports
• Review variances between standard and actual costs and report findings
• Update BOMs to ensure accurate standard costs
• Prepare monthly gross margin analysis by customer, part number, and production jobs
• Analyze changes in product design or manufacturing methods for cost impact
• Collect data on raw material purchases, inventory, and labor costs
• Reconcile physical inventories and cycle counts
• Prepare periodic inventory reserve reconciliations and risk analyses
• Assist month‑end and year‑end closing with supplemental reports
