The Ophthalmic Nurse works on prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of eye injuries or diseases such as cataracts and glaucoma. Responsibilities include vision testing, surgical assistance, medication administration, patient education, clinic maintenance, and medical record management.
Responsibilities
- Conduct vision tests (visual acuity, tension)
- Register patient medical histories
- Assist surgical team during eye surgery
- Instruct patients on eye injury care at home
- Administer medications and use medical equipment
- Supervise daily clinic cleaning
- Prepare outpatient paperwork (prescriptions, histories)
- Measure VA, IOP, vital signs
- Perform minor surgeries
- Assist in major scrub procedures
- Carry out sterilization tasks
- Support ophthalmic doctors and optometrists
- Organize patient files and register cards
