The Project Accountant oversees all field‑level financial operations for a donor‑funded rural development project, ensuring strict compliance with BFI policies, local laws and international donor guidelines while producing accurate reporting and supporting audit processes.
Responsibilities
- Manage day‑to‑day field financial transactions and petty cash
- Process payments to suppliers and community structures
- Monitor field liquidity and forecast cash needs
- Maintain accurate ledgers, journals and transaction records
- Record expenditures in standardized accounting software with correct budget coding
- File and preserve supporting documentation
- Track expenditures against project budgets to prevent overruns
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports with variance analyses
- Ensure compliance with Ethiopian tax laws, ACSO regulations and donor parameters
- Support external audits and internal checks by providing required ledger sheets and vouchers
